It is very straight forward to obtain a mortgage in Spain especially as more and more banks speak English. You need to make sure that you have originals of all documents such as your passport, driving licence, proof of income (three months´ payslips, latest P60s) – copies of all of these will be taken by the mortgage provider. Having a mortgage on a property is a great way to ensure the legal status of your future home. As banks are very risk averse they are very thorough when they assess a property in order to decide whether or not to lend their money! Do be aware of companies that offer services that seem too good to be true, as they probably are! Many brokers are respectable but always checkout what the overall costs are before committing to anything. The costs of arranging mortgages is higher than in the UK and they are not always as flexible. Don´t be pressurised into signing anything you are not comfortable with. A respectable company would not try to force you. |
